From SEO Staff to the Google Stage: A Journey Beyond Expectations

Sometimes in life, we find ourselves on a journey that far exceeds our expectations. Even today, I still struggle to believe that I stood on the stage of Search Central Live Jakarta 2024 as a speaker, a prestigious event organized directly by Google. It is the realization of a dream that once felt like a distant fantasy, something far too ambitious to ever actually happen.
Early Steps in the World of SEO
When I first entered the world of SEO, I was just an ordinary staff member, tasked with optimizing websites, analyzing data, and improving search performance. The SEO landscape back then felt vast, full of technical challenges and creative demands. The Indonesian SEO space had already been established by talented practitioners from all kinds of highly capable websites.
Although I had a desire to contribute more, at the time it felt like nothing more than a daydream. I was just someone working behind the scenes, based outside Jakarta, not at a well-known company, and my focus was simply on meeting my company's targets and serving its clients.
But like a small flame that keeps burning, the dream grew over time. Every project I worked on, every analysis I ran, and every challenge I faced gave me something valuable. I began to understand that achieving something significant requires a combination of hard work, consistency, and the courage to keep learning.
There is much more I want to share, but perhaps that is a story for another time.
The Turning Point: A Project and an Invitation from Google
This journey reached an extraordinary turning point when I led a project, perhaps what could be called a pilot project, related to VideoObject Markup, which Google was actively promoting at the time. As one of Indonesia's largest OTT platforms, Vidio had a strong need for this development, since it would significantly improve the visibility of Vidio's video-on-demand content in Google Search.
To make a long story short, the development was completed and running well. Shortly after the project wrapped up, Google began planning the Search Central Live 2024 event in Jakarta. At that moment, I was invited to become a speaker. At the time, neither I nor anyone from Google had yet figured out what I would actually talk about.
After some time, I proposed that we use my project with them as the topic. The idea was accepted, and I was formally invited by Google to speak at their event. I was asked to share my perspective on "Improving Video SEO with VideoObject Markup." This was a topic I had spent a long time studying and exploring for Vidio's needs, and I felt deeply honored to speak in front of professionals who shared the same enthusiasm for the world of SEO.
In that moment, what I felt was not just pride, but also deep gratitude. The experience taught me that big dreams are not impossible, as long as we are willing to fight for them.
Lessons from the Journey
For me, this journey is proof that what we consider "too big" is actually within reach. A few lessons I have taken from this experience:
1. Start Small: Every consistent small step builds the larger journey ahead.
2. Never Stop Learning: The world keeps changing, and learning is how we stay relevant.
3. Step Outside Your Comfort Zone: New challenges often open doors to opportunities we never imagined.
A Message from Me
To you reading this right now, I want to say one thing: never underestimate your own potential. Big dreams require significant effort, but that does not mean they are out of reach. Every experience, whether a success or a failure, is an important part of your journey toward growth.
With deep gratitude, I want to dedicate this moment to everyone who has supported me, and to you who is working hard to achieve your own dreams.
And a heartfelt thank you to Google, especially Google Indonesia, represented by William Prabowo, for giving me the opportunity to share something meaningful with the digital community at the Google Search Central Live event in Jakarta.
Best regards,
Hans C. F.
